Weekend Escapade at Hotel Grandis, Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu or KK also "the Land Below the Wind" called by the Locals is Sabah's state of Malaysia situated in the northern part of the island of Borneo.

I have to admit that I didn't hear much about KK prior to our journey.  But I like to be surprised sometimes and I was indeed surprised how underrated this city is!

As we only have 4 days and 3 nights to explore KK (technically 3 days and 3 nights as we arrived late at night) , we booked a deluxe sea-view room at Hotel Grandis. After the first day of staying in this 4-star  luxury hotel, I instantly fell in love with it.

Here are the reasons why :

Hotel Grandis, a 13-storey hotel with 188 rooms 
1. Best Location, in the heart of KKCity, connected to Suria Sabah Shopping Mall which is very convenient as it has everything you need, from shopping, groceries, pharmacies to restaurants. You can find everything in this mall.

2. Hassle Free Check-in, the staff are always smiling and take care of your needs which made all transactions so smooth and easy peasy.

3. Spacious Rooms with a cute living room, stunning sea-view and thoughtful amenities : they provided Free Wifi, iron, iron board, electronic safe, bath robes, slippers as well as coffees and teas. In addition, I got a fruit basket and welcome note with my name on it, how cool is that!

4. The bathroom is huge with a sea-view too! They provided toilet amenities complete with shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soap, even a comb, shave, shower cap, cotton buds and of course toothbrush and toothpaste.

5. Their complimentary breakfast buffet  with a view was worth waking up early for located at Rosea Café in the 1st Floor. They changed their main Menü daily which I always look forward to every day. However, you won't find any pork in the menu.



The Piano Lounge 
6. A fancy lounge with a piano which they call the "Piano Lounge" will be discovered before you approach Rosea Cafe, you will find it right when you get out of the elevator. Here you can relax a bit and order some sumptous cakes and pastries along with a cup of coffee or tea. Right in-front of the lounge, there's a short cut door entering the Suria Shopping Mall.

7. Hotel Grandis' rooftop bar,  the Sky Blu Bar, is one of my favorite areas to hang out. Aside from the bar and restaurant, you can find a beautiful pool overlooking the stunning islands and some parts of the city! We would come here in the morning, afternoon up to witness the stunning sunset. They have a live band as well playing here at night. I saw some people coming here just for the rooftop bar, and honestly I don't wonder why! The menus here are relatively cheap considering this is a 4-star hotel! On top of it, they have some on-going promos and happy hours to enjoy without breaking your bank. There's also a gym by the way before you get to the bar. 




8. The Jetty Port or Jesselton Point for Island hopping is just 5 minutes away from Grandis Hotel . You should definitely not miss this opportunity to discover the best islands Kota Kinabalu has to offer. Check out my blog for the Mamutik Island that we have visited for a day trip. 

The Jesselton Duty Free Shop 
9.  The Jesselton Duty Free Shop is just right outside  of the hotel, a 2-3minutes walk away. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to visit this place even if it was soo near our us. But no worries, I am pretty sure we will go back to KK as soon as this lockdown is over.

10.  Only 10-15 minutes away from the Kota Kinabalu Mosque by car. Grab is very cheap in KK. But no tourists were allowed to enter the mosque due to the nCov, so we had to stay across the street. 

11. Just 5minutes away from the Gaya Sunday Market. This is a huge fleamarket every Sunday here in Sabah. We took advantage of the cheap Grab however as it was very hot during that day.

12. It takes only 15-20 minutes to the Kota Kinabalu  Airport, depending on traffic. 



In addition to all of the reasons above, we got to explore the beauty of Kota Kinabalu in a short period of time, thanks to Hotel Grandis! I honestly can't think of any better hotel here in KK and therefore I highly recommend this luxury hotel.

The best way is to take Grab or Taxi as this would be less hassle and not very expensive.
